National Health Care Rally July 17, 2009 (11:30am -2PM)

The People had a small Victory yesterday. A victory that has set a precedent for future rallies in the City of Newport News. The city requires any organized group who wishes to assemble on city property to obtain liability insurance in the amount of $550K. This creates a barrier for people who would like to assemble as exercise their freedom of speech. After a letter was sent to the City of NN Attorneys office; Joe Durant an assistant city attorney wrote back and stated:

“…City will not pursue proof of insurance for your event, since the event is protected under the First Amendment.  A letter indicating that approval has been granted is being prepared, and I will endeavor to get that to you prior to July 17, but, if it is not available, you may consider this as proof of the granted permit should any question be raised.”

While we have this momentum please join the National Health Care Rally
